The cop who shot and killed a man at a Northwood, New Hampshire, property earlier this month has been identified, as an inquiry into whether or not deadly force was appropriate continues. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said on Thursday that Northwood Police Officer Nicholas Kane was the one who discharged his pistol during the shooting incident on Oct. 1 that killed 34-year-old Malcolm Burns.
Officials previously stated that the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident at a residence on Route 4, but his name was withheld pending the completion of a formal interview. That day, police were called to the area after receiving a report of domestic violence between Burns and his father. Once inside the First New Hampshire Turnpike residence, the cop — now known as Kane — got into a physical argument with Burns, according to officials, which resulted in Kane fatally shooting Burns.
An autopsy revealed that Burns, who was pronounced dead at the scene, died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The exact facts surrounding the incident are still being investigated, but officials expect the report on the incident and whether Kane’s use of deadly force was justified to be released once the inquiry is done.
