UCHealth Shooting Investigations: A heavy police presence was seen at the UCHealth Greeley Hospital Thursday morning after authorities reported a shooting in the parking lot. According to the Greeley Police Department, the incident took place at a parking lot at 29th Street Road and 65th Avenue, near the Highway 34 bypass.
According to authorities, the incident is under control and there is no active shooting at the scene. The hospital was placed on lockdown out of prudence, although authorities stated that there was no current threat to the facility. One witness stated that he pulled into the parking lot shortly before 8:15 a.m. and heard four to five gunshots behind his car. The witness noticed a man shooting behind his car and then fleeing away from the parking lot. According to the witness, the man returned and drove away in his vehicle. Another witness in a nearby apartment block reported seeing a silver automobile drive eastward on West 29th Street before stopping in a nearby roundabout with two cut tires and many gunshots. Just after 10 a.m., police said that the suspect had been apprehended and that there was no longer a threat to the public, schools, or hospitals.
UCHealth issued the following statement: Earlier this morning, there was an incident in the parking lot of UCHealth Greeley Hospital. We are working closely with Greeley Police, who believe this is a unique occurrence of domestic violence. While we do not believe there is a continuous threat, we have additional security.
