SDSU Shooting Investigations: An emergency alert has been sent to everyone on the San Diego State University campus following a shooting report on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Authorities were called to the SDSU campus for a gunfire report around 8 p.m.
According to the San Diego State University Police Department, students have been alerted of a possible active shooter on the campus. The facilities around the campus have been placed on a mandatory lockdown. Students have been urged to shelter at a secured location and close all doors and windows while officers investigate the ongoing incident.

IN ANOTHER STORY: 40 acres fire near SDSU campus
Firefighters are responding to a brush fire southwest of the San Diego State University campus on Thursday afternoon. Authorities have established that there is no threat to the campus. A fire was reported in the canyon near Fairmount Avenue and Montezuma Road around 1:45 p.m. According to San Diego Police Department Lt. Dan Meyer, the fire appeared to have started when strong winds blew through an area with overgrown vegetation and palm trees.
As of 4 p.m., the wildfire had burned approximately 40 acres and was 0% contained. A smoke advisory has been issued for Central and Southeast San Diego, encompassing Mission Valley, Lemon Grove, and Encanto. Thousands of individuals were told to evacuate from numerous neighborhoods surrounding the fire, beginning south of Alvarado Canyon Road, west of Hewlett Drive, north of Monroe Avenue, and east of Montezuma Road.
Several schools were affected, including Hardy Elementary. Students from the school have been evacuated to Viejas Arena at SDSU, which is accessible via Canyon Crest. A temporary evacuation site has been established at the Allied Gardens Recreation Centre, situated at 5155 Greenbrier Ave., San Diego, 92120. The Red Cross is on-site to aid evacuees.

SDFD reported no injuries or serious damage to any homes as of 5:16 The westbound Interstate 8 off-ramp at Fairmont Avenue was blocked about 3:03 p.m. to aid in fire response and keep the public away from the burning area, according to Caltrans.
Several surface road restrictions were implemented, including Collwood Boulevard connects Monroe Avenue and Montezuma Road. Montezuma Road (between Fairmount Avenue and 55th), Fairmount Avenue (from I-8 to Aldine Drive), and Camino del Rio South at Fairmount Avenue. According to SDPD, these are expected to be in place until at least midnight. People should avoid the area due to the fire response, and be aware of traffic delays and road closures.
