Marie Trainer Obituary: The former mayor of Haldimand County, Ontario, and past Ward 4 councilor, Marie Trainer has died. The 78-year-old circa-born mother of three passed away this week from injuries sustained in a car accident that happened about a month ago, the family announced.

According to a post made by her son Steven, Trainer passed away at 7:30 this morning from complications due to a September 7 car accident. Who Was Marie Trainer?
Marie Trainer, born about 1946 (Nolan 1991), is the former mayor of Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada, having been defeated by Mayor-Elect Ken Hewitt on October 25, 2010. In unofficial final results, Hewitt received 6,984 votes, Trainer received 5,748 votes, and Buck Sloat received 2,929 votes to finish third. She assumed office after defeating the incumbent, Lorraine Bergstrand, in the 2003 Ontario municipal elections.
Haldimand County residents re-elected Marie Trainer as mayor in the 2006 Ontario municipal elections. Trainer garnered national prominence after making inflammatory comments during an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation about the Caledonia land dispute. Trainer was first elected to local service in 1985, serving as councilor for the Hagersville Ward in the old Town of Haldimand (Best 2003). In 1988, she was elected to the short-lived Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk (Best 2003).
