Mark Himebaugh Missing: The Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office will employ artificial intelligence to examine the case of Mark Himebaugh, who went missing in 1991 in Cape May County. On Wednesday, police said that they had reached an agreement with Tabtu Corp and its service provider, Terawe, to employ AI to assist in the case.
Mark Himebaugh was last seen on November 25, 1991, in the Del Haven, New Jersey neighbourhood. He was 11 years old at the time. Mark had left his home and was last seen at the coastal community in a nearby park about 4:00 p.m. that day. Mark’s mother was unable to locate him, therefore local police in Middle Township were informed; nevertheless, Mark was not found.
Investigators are hoping that new technology may help them solve a cold case from the 1990s. According to officials, law enforcement organizations have been employing artificial intelligence to help advance investigations. They went on to say that AI can help identify patterns that aren’t immediately evident. “I want to thank the Vollee team and Microsoft for partnering with us on this important project,” Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner said in a statement. “It is critical that we employ all available resources and cutting-edge technology to identify Mark.
My aim is that this pilot initiative will help us solve Mark’s case and serve as a model for other cold cases.Himebaugh lived in Del Haven, Cape May County, and went missing when he was eleven years old. Himebaugh was last seen on November 25, 1991, when he went home to observe a brush fire in the neighbouring marsh. Fire officers set up a detour on Himebaugh’s street, causing traffic to flow through the neighbourhood and leading to his claimed kidnapping.
“He was abducted, but I’m not sure why. There are many possibilities, but I’m not sure why or what it was. That is why I am hoping that someone would come out with it,” Maureen Himebaugh stated in 2021.
